Perak cops raid three premises stealing power to mine Bitcoins

SERI ISKANDAR: Police raided three premises, which were running Bitcoin cryptocurrency mining operations here, for electricity theft.

Perak Tengah OCPD Supt Barudin Wariso said the raids were conducted between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday (Jan 12) with the cooperation of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

He said seven people in their 20s were arrested.

Supt Barudin said the three premises were stealing power via illegal connections, which was uncovered after TNB detected extremely high usage of electricity from the area, which was unusual from business premises.

"Besides that, the public had also complained of loud noises coming from the three premises, causing disturbance to other businesses nearby," he said.

Supt Barudin said further investigations would be carried out to trace and identify the network responsible.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, as well as under Section 427 of the same Code for mischief.
