Floods: Johor records slight drop in evacuee numbers

JOHOR BARU: Johor recorded a slight drop in evacuees currently seeking shelter at 30 temporary relief centres in five affected districts.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that as of 4pm Wednesday (Jan 13), the number of victims at relief centres stand at 2,999 people compared to 3,314 people earlier.

“However, Kota Tinggi still has the most evacuees at 2,161 people, followed by Johor Baru at 624, Kluang (121), Segamat (76) and Pontian (17).

“The relief centres with the most evacuees is SMK Skudai with 346 people from Kampung Laut and Kampung Sepakat here and SK Taman Kota Jaya with 292 people from Kampung Kelantan and Kampung Panti in Kota Tinggi, ” he said on Wednesday.

He added that three flood-related deaths so far have been recorded between Jan 2 and Jan 4.

Vidyananthan also said Jalan Kota Tinggi - Kluang has been closed to all vehicles due to a landslide.
