Snatch thief caught in citizen’s arrest


KUALA LUMPUR: A 32-year-old man was detained after allegedly snatching a gold chain from another man at Jalan Tun Sambanthan here.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the snatch theft incident occurred at about 10pm on Jan 8.

"The victim and other members of the public managed to chase after the suspect and detained him before he was handed over to the police.

"The suspect sustained some injuries when he was apprehended by the victim and other bystanders," he said when contacted on Tuesday (Jan 12).

The suspect has 24 criminal records, including for drug-related offences, he added.

"He has been remanded until Friday (Jan 15).

"We believe several snatch theft cases in Brickfields have been solved with the arrest of the suspect," he said.

ACP Anuar thanked the public for their cooperation and he urged anyone with information on any criminal activity to contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-22979222 or any nearest police station.
