SEREMBAN: The awards and titles presentation ceremony scheduled to be held at Istana Besar Seri Menanti on Jan 14 in conjunction with the 73rd birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir has been cancelled.
All other events scheduled to be held at the Balairung Seri hall have also been called off.
State secretary Datuk Dr Razali Ab Malik said the decision to cancel the events was made by the state ruler.
"The cancellation is also in line with the announcement by the Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) on the imposition of the movement control order (MCO) to check the spread of Covid-19," he said in a statement Tuesday (Jan 12).
On Monday (Jan 11), Muhyiddin announced that a conditional MCO would be enforced in Negri Sembilan as well as Pahang, Perak, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan for two weeks from Jan 13 to 26 due to the increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases nationwide.
The government would also enforce the MCO in the Federal Territories and five other states while a recovery MCO will be implemented in Perlis and Sarawak.
Last March, the government first imposed the MCO under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and well as the Police Act 1967, which covered a range of activities.
The order then entailed a ban on all mass gathering for religious, sport, social and cultural activities.
