Umno Youth praised for cleaning up Chinese temple

PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) has commended Umno Youth for lending a hand to clean a Chinese temple in the aftermath of the Kota Tinggi floods in Johor.

He praised the Umno Youth volunteers called Skuad Sabil for assisting, without taking into account the religious or racial background of those affected.

“Congratulations and kudos to Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Skuad Sabil for assisting in cleaning a non-Muslim worship house.

“This is the spirit of togetherness and unity in our country which we must practise.

“At a time when we are in trouble, there are those who lend a helping hand without a care for whatever the background is.

“This is because we are one big family who lives in harmony and peace.

“This is our strength, our uniqueness which we must uphold at all times, ” Dr Wee said on Facebook yesterday.

He posted pictures of the Umno Youth members cleaning up the courtyard and surroundings of the Chinese temple in Kota Tinggi, which was recently hit by floods.

Asyraf also posted on his Facebook page that they helped out on the basis of welfare, with Muslims not forbidden to help non-Muslims.

“The openness of Islam draws the need for Muslims to help non-Muslims if they are in trouble, including cleaning up their houses of worship on the basis of respecting other religions.

“It is based on this principle that Umno Youth’s Skuad Sabil offered their help and service to not only clean Muslim houses of worship such as mosques and surau, but also Chinese temples which were badly damaged by the big floods which hit Kota Tinggi, ” he said.

“May Allah regard all our sweat which we offer as welfare in God’s name, ” said Asyraf.

Kota Tinggi was one of the worst-hit areas in the floods which ravaged many parts of Johor in the first week of the year.
