Covid-19: 2,433 new cases, nine new fatalities bring total to 551

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,433 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 135,992.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are now 27,332 active cases in the country.

"Out of the new infections, 2,426 were local transmissions involving 1,784 Malaysians, while 642 others affected non-Malaysians.

"Seven more were imported cases," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said 1,277 people recovered from the disease on Sunday (Jan 10), bringing the total recoveries to 108,109.

However, the death toll has also risen, as the Health Ministry recorded nine more deaths, bringing total number of fatalities to 551.

The dead were aged between 37 and 94, with two of them being foreigners.

All of them also had existing medical conditions such as breast cancer, kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Dr Noor Hisham also said there are currently 171 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units with 76 of them on ventilators.
