PETALING JAYA: The country recorded 2,451 new Covid-19 cases as at noon Saturday (Jan 9), bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 133,559.

Of the 2,451 new cases, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 2,446 cases were locally transmitted and five were imported cases.
"For the locally transmitted cases, 1,858 cases involved Malaysians and 588 cases were foreigners," he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 9).
Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 564, followed by Sabah and Negri Sembilan at 409 and 351 respectively.INTERACTIVE: Latest figures (Worldwide)
Dr Noor Hisham said 327 cases came from clusters linked to lockups, immigration detention centres and prisons, which consisted of Penjara Jalan Harapan (291), Telok Mas (17), Tembok Gajah (nine), Damai Pelangi (eight), Pagar Siput (one) and Tembok Choh (one).
At the same time, Dr Noor Hisham said there were 177 Covid-19 cases that are currently being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU), where 82 of them needed
ventilator support.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that there were currently 26,185 active Covid-19 cases in the country.
He said 1,401 patients have recovered from Covid-19 as of noon Saturday (Jan 9), bringing the total cumulative number of recoveries to 106,832
