KUALA KRAI (Bernama): The body of an elderly woman was found stuck among palm stems in Sungai Rek near a chalet in Laloh here on Friday (Jan 8) at about 10.05am after she was reported missing since last Saturday (Jan 2).
Kuala Krai district police chief Supt Suzaimi Mohammad said the body, identified as Maeyoh Beeru, 59, a Thai national, was found floating in the river by members of the public.
He said the body was pulled out of the river at 12.20pm with the help of villagers and was later sent to the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital for a post mortem.
"Preliminary examination indicates no foul play and the case has been classified as sudden death," he said when contacted here on Saturday (Jan 9).
The victim was reported missing last Saturday, after being swept away by strong currents while wading through one-metre deep water when the floods had just started in Kelantan.
The victim, who lives in Kampung Kebun Setambun, was said to have gone to the grocery store and was trying to cross the river to get home. - Bernama
