Noraini Ahmad: Another three-month deferment for PTPTN loans

PETALING JAYA: The government will extend the deferment of repayments for National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans by another three months.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad said the extended deferment would be until March 31 for qualified borrowers.

In a statement Friday (Jan 1), Noraini said borrowers who qualify for the deferment can start applying on Jan 5.

"This decision was taken as the government realises that PTPTN borrowers are still affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and still cannot afford to repay their loans.

"Affected borrowers can apply for deferment on the PTPTN website from Jan 5 to March 31.

"The deferment period will begin from the month the application is approved," said Noraini.

Prior to this, the government had deferred the loans of PTPTN borrowers last year from March 19 to Dec 31.
