Azmin, Hajiji and Anas send Xmas greetings

PETALING JAYA: It’s Christmas Eve and while it has been a roller-coaster year, everyone has their best wishes for the Yuletide season.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said Christmas is a celebration of togetherness, and giving and looking out for one another.

“In a multiracial society, we learn to live harmoniously in diversity, ” he said on Twitter.

He also shared a card that he had received after his children visited Rumah Destiny with gifts on Tuesday.

“I received this Christmas card from Esther from Rumah Destiny, the home my children visited yesterday. Thank you so much Esther for writing such a sweet card! Merry Christmas to you and everyone in Rumah Destiny, ” he said.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor urged Sabahans to take time to ponder on the binding factors that keep them united during the festive season, and also to pay tribute to all frontliners who have been fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hajiji said while Christians welcome and celebrate Christmas, it was important to instil and preserve values that keep Sababans united and the state peaceful.

“Focus not on our differences but what we have in common, which is the love for harmony and unity regardless of race and religion, ” he said in his Christmas and New Year message.

He said while celebrating and enjoying the holidays, the people should not forget the frontliners.

“Let us pray for the well-being of all, especially the frontliners who have been working day and night to protect us and our families, ” he said.

The Chief Minister also reminded the public not to forget the less fortunate during the festive season.

“As we prepare to enter the new year, all Sabahans must work together to fight the pandemic and rebuild the state economy, ” he said while reminding the people to adhere to the SOP to break the chain of infection.

Wishing everyone a “Salam Krismas”, social activist Anas Zubedy said many Muslims and Christians did not know that they had so much in common.

“We must reflect on this shared history, ” he said while wishing everyone a “meaningful Christmas”.
