RM91k in illegal cigarettes and alcohol seized in Ulu Tiram, duo arrested


JOHOR BARU: Two men, including a senior citizen, have been detained by the General Operations Force (GOF) in Ulu Tiram here for possessing more than RM91,000 worth of illicit cigarettes and alcohol.

GOF Fifth Battalion commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the suspects, aged 46 and 68, were arrested at about 4pm on Monday (Dec 21) during checks at two separate premises in Kampung Baru Ban Foo.

“We found 327 cartons of various brands of contraband cigarettes and 120 cartons of smuggled alcohol in the two premises. The value of the seized items is estimated to be more than RM91,000.

“The suspects and the items have been handed over to the Seri Alam police headquarters for further actions,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Dec 22).

He said the case is being investigated under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967 for possession of illegal goods.

Supt Dimin urge the public to inform the police if they have information of illegal activities such as the smuggling of contraband goods.
