JOHOR BARU: Two men were detained by the 5th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) for allegedly possessing 242 cartons of smuggled cigarettes.
Both suspects, local males aged 26, were arrested in two separate cars at Taman Cendana in Pasir Gudang at around 2.45pm on Wednesday (Dec 16).
“The illegal ciggies are estimated to cost about RM138,000,’’ said 5th Battalion GPO commanding chief Supt Dimin Awang in a statement Thursday (Dec 17).
He said the seized cigarettes were brought to the Seri Alam police district headquarters for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.
