SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will take 15 months to complete the raw water pollution mitigation project, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the tendering process was ongoing and the contract was expected to be awarded in January next year.
He explained that the project involved a diversion in the water flow, away from the water treatment plant inlets to prevent pollution.
“Water from the Hybrid Off-River Augmentation System (Horas) 600 project would be pumped into the water treatment plants instead.
“The Rantau Panjang water treatment plant and Horas together were estimated to have the capacity to supply water for 100 consecutive days.
“At present, we have also engaged independent consultants to study the viability of the project, prior to awarding the contract, ” he said after the symbolic presentation of RM2mil for the Roda Darul Ehsan initiative at the Selangor secretariat building on Monday (Dec 14).
It was reported that the state has set aside RM200mil of its 2021 budget for initiatives to counter the repeated river contamination and abrupt water supply disruptions in the state, which included a biological/bioremediation treatment pioneer project to protect the water quality in rivers with the use of nanotechnology.
Raw water treatment system would also be put into place.
