Penang High Court dismisses suit brought by Baling MP against Lim Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN: A High Court here has dismissed the defamation lawsuit by Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim against former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng (pic) over the Penang undersea tunnel project

The High Court here dismissed the suit by the Baling MP on the grounds that he failed to prove his claims and directed for Abdul Azeez to pay Lim RM50,000 in costs.

The decision was read in chambers by deputy registrar L. Umma Devi on behalf of Justice Datuk Rosilah Yop.

Speaking after the proceedings on Friday (Dec 11), Lim's lawyer Datuk N. Mureli said that Abdul Aziz failed to produce enough proof for his case

Abdul Azeez sued Lim in 2018 claiming the former finance minister issued defamatory statements during a press conference in Penang on Feb 28 of the same year when he was still the Penang chief minister.

In his suit, Abdul Azeez claimed that Lim had linked him with a payment of RM3mil as a consultation fee by the developer of the infrastructure project.

Abdul Azeez was seeking general and exemplary damages and other relief deemed fit by the court.
