A total of 2,742 Malaysians are being detained abroad as of yesterday for various crimes including drugs, fraud, credit card forgery, as well as Customs and Immigration offences, the Dewan Rakyat heard.
Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar said among them, 1,434 were detained for offences involving drugs, followed by scams (406), fake credit cards (132), Customs offences (89) and Immigration offences (66).
