No more ban, many planning leisure trips across states

GEORGE TOWN: With the interstate travel ban lifted this week, Malaysians are planning Cuti-Cuti Malaysia in droves.

Hotel employee A. Nallani, 58, who is planning a trip to Kuala Lumpur to attend a wedding ceremony, said her family was looking forward to some domestic travel.

“We are all happy that there are finally no restrictions on interstate travel as many of us are worried we will not be able to attend our relatives’ wedding ceremony.

“Now that we can travel, it is easy for everyone to plan their journeys, ” she said when met here.

Restaurant worker Muhammad Ammar Azrizal, 20, who is planning to return to his hometown in Taiping on Friday, said he was overjoyed.

“I have not seen my family for over a month and I really miss them.

“During the conditional movement control order, they were worried about me being here alone, and now I can finally go back to them.

“Although we chatted through phone calls and video calls, I think my family and I can only be relieved when we see each other face to face, ” he said, adding that he could finally bring his family to Taiping.

Except for Mukim 12 and 13, which include Bayan Lepas, Relau, Batu Maung, Paya Terubong and Ayer Itam, remaining under the conditional MCO until Dec 20, the rest of the state is under recovery MCO.

In Petaling Jaya, Saiful Hadi Jamal Shuhaily, 24, who resides in Kalumpang, Hulu Selangor, is happy that he can go shopping again in Tanjung Malim, Perak.

“Things were limited as I could not cross the state border to make purchases, ” said the final-year university student.

Being cooped up at home took a toll on him, and he now looks forward to returning to his university in Kedah.

Amiratul Annissa, 28, said she quickly made her vacation plans.

“My family and I were supposed to go on a vacation earlier. Now we can travel together again in a car, ” said the single mother.

Junior executive Lim Vee Vien, 22, hopes the government will also lift the international travel ban soon.

“I want to visit my friends and family who are currently overseas. I miss a good vacation and sightseeing, ” she said.
