PETALING JAYA: Umno and PAS are expected to meet soon to discuss political developments, including the current issue in Perak.
Barisan secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the meeting between the Muafakat Nasional partners was crucial as both parties have to figure out how to handle the matter.
"Leaders from Umno and PAS will have an immediate meeting to discuss recent political developments, including what is currently happening in Perak," the Ketereh MP tweeted.
Annuar's tweet came hours after Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there could be a possibility that there might be a new political coalition in Perak.
Ahmad Zahid also said discussions will be held among political parties including DAP from Pakatan Harapan.
He said this after his audience with Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah at Istana Kinta on Sunday (Dec 6).
Ahmad Zahid said Umno will also be nominating candidates for the Mentri Besar post soon.
Among the possible candidates include Perak Umno chief Datuk Saarani Mohamad, former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Kadir and Rukup assemblyman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya. Saarani is widely tipped for the post.
However, Ahmad Zahid said a final decision will only be reached after a meeting that will include Pakatan leaders.
Meanwhile, Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said it is prepared to work with any party that shares a vision of a government based on the principles of integrity and good governance.
He said this when asked to comment on Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement that Umno is willing to work with other parties from Pakatan Harapan, including DAP.
Perak's recent political crisis erupted on Friday (Dec 4) following the ousting of Datuk Seri Datuk Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Mentri Besar through a vote of confidence at the state assembly.
Ahmad Faizal lost the seat after he only managed to get support from 10 assemblymen in the 59-seat assembly.
He handed his resignation to the Sultan on Saturday (Dec 5).
