IPOH: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, has advised political leaders to find the best solution to resolve the political situation in the state after Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost the motion of confidence in support of him as Mentri Besar on Friday.
According to Member of Dewan Negara Perak (Advisory Council to the Ruler) Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini, Sultan Nazrin had listened to the opinions of all political leaders who had met with him since Friday.“While he does listen to their opinions, it is not his responsibility to interfere in the issue.
“He advised all state political leaders to find the best formula to form a new state government and find a new leader, ” he told reporters outside Istana Kinta here yesterday.Earlier, three state Pakatan Harapan leaders – PKR chairman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming and Parti Amanah Negara chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi – had sought audience with the Sultan.
Perak Umno chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad had an audience with the Sultan shortly after the Pakatan leaders left.
Nga and Asmuni stopped their cars and waved at the media who were gathered outside the palace as early as 10am.When asked if any parties have the majority to form a government, Mohd Annuar did not comment.
“I can only share what was presented at the palace. All three Pakatan leaders met Sultan Nazrin at the same time and shared their stand on the issue, ” he said.
“(Umno president Datuk Seri Dr) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be meeting Sultan Nazrin at 11am at Istana Kinta on Sunday, ” he said.The motion filed by Umno’s Pengkalan Baru assemblyman Datuk Abdul Manaf Hashim was tabled at the state assembly on Friday.
Out of 59 legislators in the state assembly, Faizal gained only 10 votes in his favour, with 48 voting against him and one abstaining.
Umno has 25 seats, Parti Pribumi Bersatu has five, PAS three, Gerakan one and an Independent, leaving the Opposition with 24.
On Friday, after seeking an audience with Sultan Nazrin, Faizal said he would remain as caretaker Mentri Besar until a new one was decided by the Sultan.
