ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor state speaker Suhaizan Kaiat has praised assemblymen here for being able to put their differences aside and focus on issues that concern the people when presenting their debates on the Johor Budget 2021.
Suhaizan said that the assemblymen, who were involved in the debates during the first three days of the state assembly sitting, have focused their points on matters related to the Covid-19 pandemic and other pressing issues faced by the people.
“This is a positive improvement in the state assembly compared to when I was appointed as a speaker back in 2018. In the previous state assembly seating, there were those who were keen on playing with personal and party sentiments.
“However, the discussion and debates from both the government, as well as the Opposition during the state assembly over the past few days were more focused on the people. It shows maturity among the assemblymen.
“I believe this is also because both sides now have experience in administering the state, as well as being on the opposition side and thus are able to understand each other's situation better, ” he said.
He added that he hopes that the assemblymen will continue to focus on the people’s issues in the days to come, while also pointing out more “out of the box” opinions and debates.
