Man killed in accident near Sibu after truck rams into tree


SIBU: A 41-year-old man was killed when the pickup truck he was driving lost control and rammed into a tree shortly after midnight on Saturday (Nov 28).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said in the incident, Irwan Christopher Pandong from Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya, was driving alone from the direction of Sungai Bidut area towards Igan Bridge.

"Our preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred as his vehicle suddenly skidded to the left of the road and hit a tree by the roadside," he said.

The victim was pronounced dead by Sibu Hospital paramedics at the scene and the body has since been sent to the hospital for an autopsy.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
