SEVERAL MPs have expressed dissatisfaction over not being able to interject and seek clarification from ministers during the winding-up speeches for their ministries on Budget 2021.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun to show flexibility in letting MPs raise their queries when ministers presented replies on points raised about their ministries during the Budget debate.
“The House is a place to debate, not to just listen to the explanations by ministers. But if the Speaker is adamant and will not even allow more time for the ministers to speak and clarify, then this is not right.
“I object to the Speaker’s attitude in stopping MPs from bringing up important and controversial issues.
“Please give the ministers leeway to clarify and allow the MPs to interject and seek clarification, ” said Anwar.
To this, Azhar, who was chairing the proceedings, said the time for MPs to debate was over and it was only right to give the ministers the opportunity to reply to the points raised by the lawmakers.
Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad (PH-Kuala Selangor) said not all MPs were given the opportunity to debate and could only seek clarification during ministerial replies.
