Covid-19: Man arrested after breaking quarantine in Miri

Hotels Miri city used as Covid-19 quarantine centres.

MIRI: A local man was arrested after he left the hotel he was being quarantined following his arrival from overseas.

Police detained the man after being alerted by the members of the public who saw him in the city with his quarantine wrist tag.

The State Disaster Relief Management Committee secretariat said in its latest updates said the arrest was made on Monday (Nov 23).

It said the police also arrested two foreigners from China and India in Kuching for violating the social distancing rule.

Kuching is a Covid-19 red zone while Miri is a yellow zone.

There have been several cases in recent months in Miri and Kuching of those under Covid-19 quarantine leaving their quarantine hotels to wander around in the cities.

The committee added that there were 51 other cases of SOP violations in Kuching, Miri, Simunjan, Samarahan and Sarikei yesterday.

The 51 individuals were issued with the RM1,000 compounds.

Sarawak has recorded 19 Covid-19 deaths and more than a thousand positive infections so far.
