Melaka civil servant among four arrested for allegedly possessing ketum water


MELAKA: A 45-year-old civil servant was among four men detained for allegedly possessing ketum water, says the Melaka police chief.

Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said police also seized 55 packets of ketum water during the 9pm raid at Taman Terendak Permai in Sungai Udang here on Friday (Nov 20).

He said all them are now being investigated under Section 31(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

“Three of the suspects had been remanded until today (Nov 23) and another until Wednesday (Nov 25), ” he said.

Separately, he said 10 men and four foreign women were detained during raids at two entertainment outlets at Taman Melaka Raya here.

He said all 14 detainees are being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He said the four foreigners will also face action under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

DCP Majid added that 31 individuals were issued compounds under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020 for violating the standard operating procedures during the raids.
