Flooding in Johor causes 155 people to be evacuated from homes


JOHOR BARU: A total of 155 people have been evacuated from their homes to two temporary relief shelters (PPS) here due to floods that have hit two districts in the state.

Johor health and environment committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the two districts affected by the floods are Johor Baru with 144 victims and Pontian with 11 victims.

"As of 8am Sunday (Nov 22), a total of 155 victims from 40 families have been placed at the two shelters.

"Some 144 victims have been sent to the shelter at SK Kampung Pasir in Johor Baru while another 11 have been sent to Dewan Masjid Kg Ulu Pulai in Pontian," he said Sunday.

He added that the state government would continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to the victims affected by the floods.
