KOTA KINABALU: Bugaya assemblywoman Manis Muka Mohd Darah (pic) of Parti Warisan Sabah passed away at the Gleneagles Hospital here from suspected kidney failure.
Earlier on, her daughter Fara Deeba Sabardin had asked for prayers for her critically-ill mother through Facebook yesterday.
Fara said her mother was in the intensive care unit of the hospital and asked for prayers for her recovery.
Manis, 65, was admitted to the hospital earlier last month for breathing difficulties.
Warisan vice-president Datuk Jaujan Sambakong said he found out about Manis’ demise from her husband at about noon yesterday.
“We are waiting for the doctors to tell us the cause of her death, ” he said, adding that her body would be flown to Semporna, 550km from here, for burial.
In the 16th state election, Manis garnered 8,557 votes to win by a 6,005-vote majority against six opponents from Perikatan Nasional, Parti Cinta Sabah, Parti Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Bersatu Sabah, Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah and two independents.
The former Semporna Wanita Umno chief had been involved in politics since 1985.
