KUALA BERANG (Bernama): The decomposed body of a man believed to have died about three weeks ago was found in a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle at an oil palm plantation in Cherang Nibong, Ajil, near here, late Friday (Nov 13) afternoon.
Hulu Terengganu OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the police received a call on the body’s discovery at about 5pm Friday and a team was sent to the scene.
"The decomposed body of the man was found in the driver's seat. From initial investigations based on the condition of the body, it is believed that the man had died about three weeks ago.
"We have identified the victim as a 31-year-old man from Kampung Tok Randok, Ajil. However, further investigations are underway and the body will be taken to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital Forensic Unit for an autopsy," he said when met at the location here Friday.
Mohd Adli said based on checks done on the vehicle, it is believed that the deceased was a suspect who had fled using the vehicle from the Ajil police station three weeks ago.
"Three weeks ago, the owner of the 4WD vehicle, who is also the brother-in-law (of the deceased), had brought him to the Ajil police station in connection with a drug case, but he fled with the vehicle while his brother-in-law was inside the station," he said.
Meanwhile, Yusoff Mat Noh, 60, who found the body, said he had seen the deceased in the vehicle in the same place on Tuesday (Nov 10).
"Vehicles stopping by at this oil palm plantation are normal, that's why I thought nothing was amiss when I saw the man in the car on Tuesday evening.
"I thought he was resting in the driver's seat. However, this afternoon, while looking for my cow, I found that the man was in the vehicle in the same place with flies swarming around," he said. - Bernama
