Augmenting this year’s Festival of Lights

TNB adds sparkle and glow to Deepavali this year.

WITH the uncertainties and upheaval caused by the unprecedented pandemic that swept the globe this year, celebrations have taken on a very different feel. Unlike the carefree celebrations of yesterday, all festivities and gatherings have been dampened by the threat posed by Covid-19, casting a pall on the mood of the occasion.

To give Malaysia a lift this Deepavali, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has rolled out Double Trouble Deepavali - a visually stunning festive film featuring a new and unique experience using augmented reality (AR) technology to give viewers an immersive and educational experience.

The AR extension of the film takes you on an interesting virtual AR tour of a house, highlighting the significance behind the traditional elements of the festival – the brightly lit oil lamps, colourful saree, fragrant jasmine flowers, delicious Indian treats and beautifully designed rangoli kolam.

The interactive AR component elevates and enhances the overall viewing experience and draws viewers into the spirit of the celebration.

Although the current mood may be somewhat dampened, with this film however, TNB hopes to inject a spark of joy alongside a light-hearted family message that would uplift the Deepavali mood for a celebration with a difference.

For newspaper readers, fret not as you won’t be left out of the fun. Just keep your eyes peeled for the press advertisement and scan it with your mobile phone. A pop-up of the virtual house will appear and you can embark on your own exploration on the virtual tour.
