Student drowns in irrigation canal


PARIT BUNTAR (Bernama): A student drowned while bathing in an irrigation canal at Sungai Betul Bawah, Tanjung Piandang near here, on Wednesday (Nov 11).

Kerian OCPD Supt Mazuki Mat said Nur Farah Dania Abd Rahman, 12, of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Piandang, was bathing in the canal with seven others at about 5.30pm when she and another got into difficulties.

An angler, who saw the incident, jumped into the canal and managed to rescue one of them, and with the help of villagers conducted a search for the girl and found her at about 6.30pm,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 12).

He said the victim was then taken to the Tanjung Piandang Health Clinic where she was pronounced dead.- Bernama
