PETALING JAYA: Sabah MCA welcomes the 2021 Budget, saying that the Federal Government attached importance to Sabah’s fight against Covid-19.

Sabah MCA Chairman Lu Yen Tung said that Sabah received RM5.1bil in spending for upgrading the water, electricity and road infrastructure in the state, as well as health and education facilities.

Sabah also received RM3.8bil for the continuation of the Pan-Borneo Highway project and other packages for its construction.

”The announcement was made in line with Sabah MCA’s recent proposals that the Federal Government should issue two special allocations for Sabah, in terms of battling Covid-19 and safeguarding people’s livelihoods, ” Lu said in a statement on Monday (Nov 9).

He said that as the pandemic situation is worsening, the government has allocated nearly RM165mil from September to October to strengthen prevention against the disease, with the 2021 Budget allocating an additional RM1bil for the Health Ministry to contain the third wave of Covid-19.

”MCA Sabah is also glad that the government has announced a series of allowances that will safeguard the rakyat’s livelihoods, especially for Sabahans.

”We will definitely cooperate fully with the government's measures to combat the pandemic and save people's livelihoods. The government will stand with Sabah in wading through this unprecedented difficult period.

”Meanwhile, all Members of Parliament are urged to secure more funding for Sabah during debates on Budget 2021 so that more benefits may be obtained for the rakyat, ” said Lu.
