KOTA KINABALU: There is a need to strengthen the assistance delivery mechanism for people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in the state, says Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar (pic).
The Sabah Bersatu information chief said on Sunday (Nov 8) that based on feedback received from the party's 25 divisions, it was found that there was a need to increase efforts to reach many people who had yet to get government assistance.
"Several immediate actions need to be taken including increasing the involvement of delivery machinery to assist existing government efforts from the local district authorities and the Social Welfare Department.
"There is also a need for a tracking system of the people needing help. It should also be streamlined for assistance to be channelled directly to them," he said.
He said the matter was discussed at the Sabah Bersatu meeting on Saturday (Nov 7) where chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had asked each division to provide feedback on the situation on the ground.
Meanwhile, Firdaus said that the state Bersatu also welcomed Budget 2021 that focuses on development and assistance for the people and the state.
The liaison committee has also formed a special team to put together proposals for the Sabah state budget 2021 that is expected to be tabled later this month.
The proposals would mainly focus on the welfare of the people and strengthening the state's economy in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.
