PETALING JAYA: A police officer has been arrested for allegedly smuggling migrants and for threatening an officer from the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS).
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the man was arrested on Thursday after a police team stopped a car in Kampung Lindungan here.
“Checks showed that the car was being driven by a 34-year-old policeman with five passengers, all foreigners without valid documents. The police, led by the suspect, inspected a house in the same area and found three more foreigners.
“A marriage registration booklet from an Indonesian religious authority belonging to the suspect and a book containing payment details were also seized,” he said in a statement yesterday.
All the eight foreigners were detained on suspicion of being involved in human smuggling.
During questioning, the suspect also started threatening a JIPS officer.
“The suspect accused the complainant of incriminating him and said he would do the same in return,” ACP Nik Ezanee said.
