Almost 900k worth of contraband cigarettes seized in Kluang

KLUANG: Police have arrested two men and seized RM870,000 worth of illicit cigarettes from a house in Taman Tasek Indah here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the suspects, both 30 years old, were nabbed around 6.30pm on Tuesday (Nov 3) by a team from its General Operations Force.

“The house, a single-storey corner lot, served as a store where the 8,500 cartons of contraband cigarettes were kept for distribution throughout Kluang.

“The suspects have been active in cigarette distribution for the past four months,” he said, adding that two luxury cars were also seized during the raid.

Comm Ayob Khan added that both suspects were placed under remand for four days from Nov 4 to Nov 7 for investigations under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967.

He advised the public to continue channelling information to the police to combat the smuggling of contraband goods.

Those with information can contact the state police hotline at 07-2212999 or lodge a report at the nearest police station.
