Six houses in Pengerang village inundated after morning downpour

KOTA TINGGI: Six houses in Kampung Baru, Pengerang, were inundated after the area was hit by flash floods Wednesday (Nov 4).

Kota Tinggi civil defence force (APM) officer Captain Mohd Sarulnizam Krirudin said the downpour started as early as 6.30am Wednesday and lasted for more than two hours.

"The flood was caused by a clogged drainage system and the heavy rain.

"We have alerted the Pengerang Municipal Council and the Drainage and Irrigation Department about the drain and they have started working on it as soon as the water levels subsided," he said Wednesday.

He added that the water completely subsided at about 10am and that no temporary shelters were opened.

"At the moment, there has been no major damage reported.

"The water levels in other areas in the district is still under control but we will continue to monitor the situation," he said.
