Two arrested for extortion, impersonating the police

KLANG: Two men were detained for posing as police personnel and extorting money from a Bangladeshi man at Persiaran Botanik here.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Shamsul Amar Ramli said the suspects are aged 20 and 23 and extorted RM300 from the victim, a shop assistant, at about 9.30pm on Sunday (Nov 1).

"The suspects posed as policemen and extorted money from the victim in exchange for not 'arresting' his customer," he said when contacted on Tuesday (Nov 3).

Police managed to track down the suspects who were in a car in Pulau Indah, he added.

"They attempted to escape by speeding away but we managed to corner them on Persiaran Botanik.

The two men were detained, and we seized a black t-shirt with the letters 'Gerak Khas' and a walkie-talkie," ACP Shamsul Amar said.

They both had a criminal record including drug-related offences, he added.

"We are investigating under Section 385 of the Penal Code for exortion and Section 170 of the same code for posing as a civil servant," he said.
