JOHOR BARU: Kons Nicolester Dadup Unggat had always wanted to buy a bigger house for his mother in Sarawak, but his dream came to an abrupt end following his death while chasing two suspects in an early Sunday (Nov 1) morning incident.
The 20-year-old had told his sister, Elizcavelynicy Unchi Unggat, 23, that he wanted to buy a house for their mother at Sibu Jaya after getting a pay rise.
Elizcavelynicy, who works as a nurse at Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) here, said that her late brother had been stationed at the Bandar Dato’ Onn police station since April this year after completing his training at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuching.
“He had promised our mother a house after he received a pay raise but now that dream is gone.
“Nicolester is a kind brother and son who always put our family’s needs above his own, ” she said, adding that the last time they met was about a week ago at his rented house near the police station.
Elizcavelynicy, who was visibly distraught when met at HIS, added that she received a call regarding his death at 8.30am from the Bandar Dato’ Onn police station.
She added that the deceased was the third son from five siblings and his body would be brought back to their hometown.
Meanwhile, Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that police were confident that they would arrest the suspects involved in the chase.
“We are confident that we will be able to catch these suspects soon because during the incident, our personnel had managed to wire in information about the suspects’ car plate number, ” he said.
He added Kons Nicolester Dadup was killed while his partner, L/Kpl Mohammad Fadhirul Musa, 32, sustained a serious injury on the head after their patrol car overturned while chasing a Perodua Myvi along Jalan Kangkar Tebrau - Jalan Tun Teja here.
Comm Ayob said that the incident occurred around 5am on Sunday after the duo noticed a grey car with two men inside.
“The policemen in the MPV ordered the driver to pull over but he was ignored. Both cars then collided against each other, causing our policemen to crash into another car coming from the opposite direction,” he said.
He added that both the male driver and a passenger in the SUV also suffered injuries while the suspect in his car managed to escape.
Comm Ayob said that Kons Nicolester Dadup's body would be sent to his hometown at 5pm while L/Kpl Mohammad Fadhirul, who is married and has three children, was undergoing treatment at the hospital’s intensive care unit.
