SIBU: Police are hunting for five men suspected of being involved in an armed robbery of a swiftlet nest house at Batu 25, Jalan Pasai Siong on Oct 29.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the 12.40am incident on Thursday (Oct 29) had caused the owner of the swiftlet nest house to suffer losses of about RM17,000.
"During the incident, the complainant, 22, who is also the caretaker of the bird's nest house, had both hands tied to his back with electric wires while his neck was pointed with a machete taken from the house," he said.
He said the complainant’s wife was almost raped by one of the suspects but was unsuccessful as she fought back.
"The suspects took more than an hour to collect the swiftlet nest before they fled with about 5kg of it," ACP Stanley said.
He said the complainant also reported the loss of two live cockerels and three mobile phones.
ACP Stanley said according to the complainant, all the suspects wore cloth face masks, long-sleeved shirts and black pants as well as black rubber boots. All of them were armed with sharp objects.
The robbery incident was the fifth time in 10 years to have happened to the swiftlet house but no police report has been made in the previous cases," he added.
The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
