Body of drowned Mersing fisherman recovered

MERSING: The body of a 25-year-old fisherman who earlier hit his head before falling into the river here has been found some eight hours later.

Endau Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Alias Hussin said its Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) found the victim at 4.17pm on Thursday (Oct 29), about 5km from where he was last seen at the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) jetty here.

“The victim was identified as Muhammad Al-Shafiq Abdul Rosool.

“His body was brought to shore and had been handed over to the police for further action,” Mohd Alias said.

It was earlier reported that fishermen were unloading their catch of the day at the jetty when the victim fell into the river at around 8.30am on Thursday.

According to a witness, the victim was trying to hop back onto the boat again when he slipped and hit his head at the side of the boat before falling into the river.
