53 close contacts of Johor's Bayu cluster test negative


JOHOR BARU: Some 53 individuals identified as the close contacts of patients from the Bayu cluster in Johor have tested negative for Covid-19.

Johor health and environment committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said of the 78 close contacts identified from the cluster, 53 tested negative while 17 were still awaiting results as of Wednesday (Oct 28).

“The index case for the cluster was a 29-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday (Oct 23).

“Screening of his close contacts found seven other positive cases, involving two colleagues and five of their family members, ” he said in a statement here on Thursday (Oct 29).

Earlier, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were four new clusters in Sabah, Sarawak, Klang Valley and Johor on Wednesday (Oct 28).

They are the Seri Gaya cluster in Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran, Greenhill cluster in Kuching and Miri, Idaman cluster in Petaling, Gombak, Titiwangsa and Cheras, and Bayu cluster in Johor Baru and Muar.

Meanwhile, on the Kempas cluster, Vidyananthan said that the number of cumulative cases stood at 33 cases involving seven colleagues, 17 of their family members, five of their relatives and three students.

He said the number of close contacts identified currently stood at 444 in Johor, Selangor and Melaka.

Of that figure, 395 have tested negative while 49 are still waiting for their results.

“This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases being reported in the state to 887 cases, with 57 active cases, 809 recovery cases and 21 deaths, ” he said, adding that eight new cases were reported on Wednesday (Oct 28).
