Perak Umno chief denies talk of new incoming MB

IPOH: Perak Umno chief Datuk Saarani Mohamad has brushed off allegations that Perak might get a new mentri besar.

He said the administration's main focus now was to stabilise the state economy.

"Perak Umno and Barisan Nasional laud the decision by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to focus on addressing the threat of Covid-19 in the country instead of politics.

"All parties should focus on dealing with the pandemic and economy," he told reporters at a press conference held at the state secretariat building here Wednesday (Oct 28).

A Malay language portal had reported that Perak would be electing a new mentri besar after Umno received support from PKR and DAP in the state.

The portal also claimed that the relationship between Saarani and current Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, had deteriorated, which was denied by Saarani.

"During weekly state meetings, I sit next to Faizal and we are focussed on stabilising the country.

"If there is an issue relating to politics, we will discuss it on the right platform.

"If there is a change in the state government, we (Umno) have nothing to do with it.

"I have not met with anyone, nor was I offered to do anything. Our main focus is the state and the people," he said.
