Trailer driver killed after vehicle skids off hilly road

KOTA KINABALU: A trailer driver was killed after his vehicle skidded off the hilly and windy road of Bukit Ular, Jalan Nangoh in interior Paitan.

The mishap is believed to have been caused by faulty brakes.

Johnaidi Pongotan, 36, suffered serious head and bodily injuries in the 6.40pm incident on Monday (Oct 26), and died at the scene.

Beluran OCPD Supt Kasim Muda said the local man was transporting oil palm fruits from an estate to the Sungai Ruku Kinabatangan palm oil mill.

He said Johnaidi likely lost control of his vehicle as the brakes were not working properly.

"The trailer skidded off the road and almost fell into a ravine on the roadside.

“The body has been taken to the hospital for a post-mortem," he said.
