Heed King's advice, put people and nation first, says GPS

KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has called on all parties to respect the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's advice to put the interests of the people and nation first.

GPS parliamentary chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof (pic) said the King's decree underlined the need for politicians to give priority to the people at all times, especially now in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We hope everyone will heed the King's advice, which prioritises the rakyat and nation, besides acknowledging that the present government has handled the pandemic effectively.

"The King also stressed the importance of Budget 2021, which will be tabled in the coming parliamentary session, in tackling Covid-19," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 27).

Fadillah also said GPS welcomed the royal decree that there was no need to proclaim an emergency in the country at this moment.

"We thank the King and Malay Rulers for their wisdom in handling the political situation. GPS will abide by the King's advice to politicians to stop all forms of politicking which can jeopardise the nation's political stability.

"This is in line with GPS' stand which is consistent in calling for an end to politicking so that we can focus on dealing with Covid-19 and economic recovery," he said.

GPS, the ruling state coalition in Sarawak, is aligned to the Perikatan Nasional administration.
