Farmer dies at his vegetable patch on Penang Hill


GEORGE TOWN: A 57-year-old farmer collapsed and died while working at his vegetable farm at Penang Hill, Ayer Itam on Monday (Oct 26).

The victim, Chee Yew Huat, was pronounced dead by a team of paramedics at the scene.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they received a call from the police at 10.49am, informing them about the incident.

"A team of firefighters were dispatched to the scene once we received the call. Our firefighters had to hike about 800m from the foothill to reach the scene to retrieve the body of the victim at the Middle Station of the hill," he said in a statement on Monday.

The spokesperson said the victim was pronounced dead after a check by the medical team at the hill.

A size-up operation was conducted at the scene and the firefighters used a stretcher to bring Chee's remains down the hill.

The operation ended around 12.45pm.
