Body of senior citizen found burned at Ampang playground

AMPANG: The body of a man was found at a playground in Taman Bukit Teratai here with burn injuries from his chest to his hips, says Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Esha.

He said that the body was found lying on the ground with burn marks by passers-by at 7.22am on Monday (Oct 26).

"The man was a 70-year-old cobbler who lives near the location where he was found. The investigation showed that he was alone at the scene and we believe he had committed suicide by burning himself," said ACP Mohamad Farouk when contacted.

He added that the body has been sent to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) for a post-mortem and said that the case is being classified as a sudden death while waiting for the post-mortem report.

Those suffering from problems or contemplating suicide can contact the Befrienders service nearest them. For a full list of numbers and operating hours, go to befrienders.org.my/centre-in-malaysia.
