Johor Umno seeking justification on use of Article 150 of Federal Constitution to declare Emergency

JOHOR BARU: Johor Umno wants the government to explain why Article 150 of the Federal Constitution is being used to pave the way for a declaration of a state of emergency in Malaysia.

Article 150 of the Constitution deals with the proclamation of a state of emergency and other matters linked to it.

Its chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad said this was one of the issues touched upon during a two-hour meeting of all 26 division chiefs in the state.

"We want the Federal Government to give the reasons behind using Article 150 of the Federal Constitution.

"It is their responsibility to make such explanations to the rakyat on why Article 150 is being used so everyone can understand it," he said after the meeting at the state Umno headquarters here on Saturday (Oct 24).

He pointed out that there had been no clear explanation by the government on the use of Article 150.

The Johor Mentri Besar said that the state government does not have the authority to defy the Federal Government's decision.

"If the Budget 2021 can not be tabled, then Johor Umno wants the state government to spend more to ensure the rakyat's welfare, which has been affected due to Covid-19," he added.

Hasni, however, said that Johor Umno does not agree to dissolve the state assembly or the Dewan Rakyat due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and economic slowdown.
