Hisham named BN treasurer-general

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has been appointed the new Barisan Nasional treasurer-general, replacing Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the reshuffle was conducted to strengthen the coalition’s organisational structure.

He said the appointment was made after consulting the presidents of other component parties.

“However, Tengku Adnan will continue his duties as Umno treasurer,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Zahid hoped Hishammuddin, who is Sembrong MP, would be able to discharge the duties entrusted to him to the best of his ability.

He also conveyed Barisan’s appreciation to Tengku Adnan for his contributions as treasurer-general.

In his response, Hishammuddin, who is Foreign Minister, said he was honoured. “I will work in the best interest of Barisan to strengthen the people’s trust in us,” he added.MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon welcomed the appointment, saying his experience, ability and leadership qualities would help strengthen Barisan.

“MCA pledges to cooperate fully with Hishamuddin and the Barisan leadership to continue to strengthen the coalition and do everything possible to serve all Malaysians,” he said in a statement.
