PUTRAJAYA: Six new Covid-19 clusters have been identified in Sabah, Negri Sembilan, Johor, Selangor and Sarawak.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said one of the new clusters in Sabah was the Mesra cluster with its index (case 13,755) identified as a symptomatic individual who was screened on Oct 7 and admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan on Oct 7.
"Close contact screenings identified another 21 positive cases. As of noon on Oct 24,116 individuals have been screened with 22 testing positive, two testing negative and 92 individuals still awaiting results," he told reporters on Saturday (Oct 24).
He said the second cluster identified in Sabah was the Megah cluster in Sandakan with case 13,706 as the cluster index, who was screened on Oct 5 and admitted to the same hospital.
"Close contact screenings led to 14 more positive cases identified. As of noon on Oct 24,64 individuals have been tested with 15 testing positive, 12 negative and 37 individuals still awaiting results," he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said the Kaya cluster in Negri Sembilan and Putrajaya was also identified.
"The cases for this cluster were identified from screenings at workplaces on Oct 24 and were admitted to the Sungai Buloh and Tuanku Jaafar Hospitals.
"63 individuals have been screened with 55 testing positive, six testing negative and two awaiting results," he said.
He added that in Gombak, Selangor the Bah Kayu cluster was identified with its cluster index (case 17,371) testing positive after screenings when the individual came back from Sabah on Oct 13 and was admitted at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
"Close contact screenings led to 16 positive cases identified. We have screened 628 individuals with 17 testing positive, 591 testing negative and 20 awaiting results," he said.
In Sarawak, Dr Noor Hisham said the Baki cluster was identified involving the index (case 20,431) who tested positive after showing symptoms on Oct 17 and was admitted at the Hospital Umum Sarawak.
"Close contact screenings led to four more testing positive. We have screened 68 individuals with five testing positive, 34 testing negative and 29 awaiting results," he said.
Meanwhile, in Johor the Kempas cluster was identified involving the Johor Baru and Kulai districts.
"The case index (case 24,447) tested positive after showing symptoms on Oct 22 and was admitted to the Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom, Kluang. Close contact screenings led to seven more testing positive. 206 individuals were screened with eight testing positive, 28 testing negative and 170 awaiting results," he said.
