Consult state govts first before declaring emergency, says Penang CM

NIBONG TEBAL: The Federal Government should consult state governments before making any important decision such as declaring an emergency, says Chow Kon Yeow (pic).

The Penang Chief Minister said that other than the King, the state governments are entitled to be consulted first before any declaration of emergency.

"We want to be consulted first, it is a very big decision," he told reporters during a press conference after the groundbreaking ceremony of an affordable housing project of Ladang Kalidonia here on Saturday (Oct 24).

Chow was asked to comment on the speculation that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin was expected to announce a state of emergency after an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Friday (Oct 23).

However, the proclamation of a state of emergency was not announced after the meeting between the two ended after two hours at Istana Abdul Aziz in Kuantan.
