Bung Moktar: Ceasefire vital to fight pandemic

KOTA KINABALU: The political ceasefire announced by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is timely as the nation battles the Covid-19 pandemic and economic fallout that comes with it, says Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

“The power that leaders and the government have today must be used to the max to really help people who are badly affected by what is happening,” Bung, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I, said in a statement here late on Thursday.

He said the state and federal governments must work together to help the needy, save lives and revive the economy.

Bung said the political truce announced by Zahid is a move that must be supported due to the worsening Covid-19 situation in Sabah.

“There is nothing more important than making sure we recover from this pandemic and the economic effects that come with it,” he said.

He said this can only be done if both the state and federal governments and leaders come together to work as one for the common goal of putting the people’s needs first.

“There is no use if we have the power given by the people but the people are left in the lurch, without any systematic measure to help and protect them,” he added.
