KOTA KINABALU: Politicians are still politicking non-stop despite the country having to battle both a pandemic and economy downturn, said Usukan assemblyman Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak (pic).
“The rakyat are really not happy with politicians now. Most are blaming politicians and politics for the surge in Covid-19 cases, ” said the former Sabah chief minister and federal cabinet minister on his blog, Sallehsaid.com.
Salleh said while leaders were fighting among themselves, the rakyat were watching and shaking their heads.
He said there was no need to keep putting the blame on anyone, nor was there a need to keep fighting for power.
“Issues like security, welfare, economy, health and many others should be placed above others, ” he said.
Salleh said Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s declaration of a political ceasefire to ensure efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic bear fruit was a reflection of this spirit.
A political ceasefire did not mean that Umno was backing down or had lost, but that the party was putting the people’s needs first, Salleh said.
