JB cops arrest duo with cigarettes worth over RM100,000

JOHOR BARU: Two men, including an Indonesian, were arrested by the General Operations Force (GOF) in Pasir Gudang here for possessing 233 cartons of contraband cigarettes worth over RM100,000.

GOF Fifth Battalion commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the suspects, a 52-year-old local man and 20-year-old Indonesian, were arrested along Jalan Tasek, Seri Alam at 1.35pm on Friday (Oct 23).

"The contraband goods of various brands, worth RM102,185, were found in plastic bags and carton boxes inside the car that they were travelling in.

"The suspects are believed to have been involved in the distribution and sale of contraband cigarettes in the Johor Baru area for the past three months," he said in a statement.

The duo and seized items were sent to the Seri Alam police department for investigations under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967, he added.
